2019 Rewind: Squire

squire

How was 2019 for you?
Squire: 2019 was a great year. A lot of new things went on really. It went so fast, couldn’t really have a feel for it and it was already gone. I had a few great shows, some nice daylight festivals in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, and released some music on Mobilee and All Day I Dream, as well as my LP on Truecolors with Jonas Rathsman remixing. It was a good year.

Highlights?
Playing at Amnesia Ibiza, one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, and releasing my record “Common Sense” on Mobilee.

Lowlights?
I would’ve liked to have had more time in the studio, and to work on my album as well. I’m planning to work on more personal music, and I always feel I need loads of time for this … which is hard to come by!

Song of the year?
Eagles & Butterflies feat. Coloray – “Can’t Stop”

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
To play in South America and Asia for the first time, and I’m especially looking forward to signing all the new tracks that I just finished in the studio.

2019 Rewind: Fernando Lagreca

Fernando Lagreca

How was 2019 for you?
Fernando Lagreca: It was not bad. I achieved most of the objectives I planned when the year started. In the end, it was a year full of music, which is most important for me.

Highlights?
I released really nice stuff on labels I like, played in new places, met new people and things are running ok with the agency (Miracle MGMT). We expanded our scope, opening an office in Buenos Aires (Argentina) to handle bookings in Latin America and even despite some tricky issues the sun is still shining in Barcelona.

Lowlights?
Aside from the fact that people are going totally crazy with social media, the worst part of the year is still focused on the lack of communication with politicians around the globe, causing a lot of people to suffer in one way or another due to their bad decisions, mainly about basic matters such as climate, food, refugees, immigrants, etc.

Song of the year?
Coyu & Moby – “I May Be Dead, But One Day The World Will Be Beautiful Again”

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Keep working hard, release an album (it is already scheduled for the first semester), play as much as possible and at good festivals and events, and expect really good tunes for the new decade. I’m excited to check what will be the sound of the upcoming year!

2019 Rewind: Afterlife

Afterlife

How was 2019 for you?
Afterlife: Great. I forged a new sound that was well-received and made some lovely new friends.

Highlights?
Studio overhaul, my track “Berimbau” staying at number one in Juno’s downtempo/balearic chart for eight weeks, and learning to cook Japanese.

Lowlights?
Mainstream media

Song of the year?
Toshi & Timmy Regisford – “Revolution” (Timmy Regisford & Mr. Joe Remix)

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Less screen time, more me time.

2019 Rewind: Sydney Blu

Sydney-Blu

How was 2019 for you?
Sydney Blu: Pretty incredible. I spent most of it in Berlin writing a new album. Toured a lot and threw some pretty big events! I can’t complain.

Highlights?
Moving to Europe and being inspired musically again. My event series The Blu Party was great over the past year. I did a huge parties at WMC and Detroit’s Movement Festival. I also debuted the Blu Party in Phoenix. I did a 15-city tour in September heading back to North America and also played some amazing European clubs like Sisyphos in Berlin, Destino in Ibiza and Noir Club in Munich. I also was a part of an amazing initiative to bring underground dance music to the Juno Awards in Canada.

Lowlights?
Even though moving to Europe was a really good decision for work. it was really hard to leave my family. I try to go back for extended visits.

Song of the year?
Pig&Dan’s “Promised” (Raxon Remix). I played this everywhere. Such a brilliant track. So primal.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I have daily goals I work on. I’m always setting them and checking back in on them. New Year’s has nothing to do with it. A couple of those goals are to continue to focus on music by finishing my album and planning the biggest Blu Party I’ve ever done this year for WMC for our ten-year anniversary.
