2019 Rewind: Anfisa Letyago

Anifsa-Letyago

How was 2019 for you?
Anifsa Letyago: It was just amazing. 2019 was the year of my first tour in SA. I had two EPs released on Intec Digital; a vinyl release of my remix of Phuture Track for DJ Pierre alongside other artists such as Carl Cox and Luciano; and a remix of “Confronted” on Second State for Pan-Pot. I’ve had so many good gigs around the world and more to come! I’m playing my first gig in the USA on December 27th at Lost Circus at Avant Gardner [in Brooklyn] New York and the 28th [at] Stereo [in] Montreal. I’ll be closing out the year at 2019 at Cosmo in Rome.

Hightlights?
In addition to all the highlights above, Carl Cox stated I am the breakthrough DJ/ producer of 2019. I will be performing at his resistance stage in Miami in his recent interview for DJ Mag alternative 100.

Lowlights?
Personally, I have not had any lowlights at all. However, I am worried for the negative things happening on our planet earth. Australia, plastic pollution, kids dying of diseases in Africa and people still dying of starvation – there’s so much negativity going on that you can never feel 100 percent happy or satisfied when you know other people are suffering and we are not doing much to help.

Song of the year?
Josh Wink – Higher State Of Consciousness (Adana Twins Remix)

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I want to continue producing music, stay focused, always try to play good music, but most of all enjoy what I do, enjoy my music and be healthy and blessed – just like I feel today!

2019 Rewind: D-Knox

Donnell Knox aka D-Knox

How was 2019 for you?
Donnell Knox: 2019 was amazing. I’ve learned more about spirituality and was able to host some of my own music nights in Warsaw at Jasna 1 club. Also, this year I collaborated with Mark Hawkins (a.k.a Marquis Hawkes) for music production and was able to finish some awesome tunes that will come out in 2020.

Highlights?
Releasing the first of the collab projects this year with Mark Hawkins (Kalamazoo EP), and finishing a house record that is scheduled to be released in 2020.

Lowlights?
Due to my father’s death back in June 2018 certain family members became estranged.

Song of the year?
“Everything I Say” by Cinthie on Beste/Modus

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
To raise my vibration higher than the previous year so that I may help others as much as possible.

Ronen Dahan DJ Perplex

Israeli DJ/producer Ronen Dahan (a.k.a. Perplex) was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen during an attack on a club in the central Mexican city of San Luis Potosi on Saturday. Another man later died later of his injuries in a hospital. The shooters have yet to be identified, and their motives for the shooting are unknown.

According to the attorney general’s office for the surrounding state of San Luis Potosi, a group of armed men entered the club in the south of the city early on Saturday and opened fire, killing Dahan, 45, and wounding three other people.

A proponent of psy-trance, Dahan, who was based in Stockholm and DJ’ed internationally, released 13 albums during his career on labels including Universal, Perfecto Records, Balloon Records and Tiger Records. He also collaborated with artists including Jesus Luz, Cutfather, Medina, Coco Star, Inns and September.

His latest project called Pura Vida was a partnership with Daniel Zitrin.

We’ll have more on this developing story as news becomes available.

Premiere: Equal Echo – Black And Blue

Equal Echo is an interesting new project helmed by London DJ/producer Hector Plimmer and singer/songwriter/instrumentalist Alexa Harley.

After two years of hard work and collaboration, the duo are about to release their debut Dynamite EP, a four-track affair which dabbles in downtempo, pop, jazz and soul.

We’re pleased to world premiere “Black and Blue” from the EP that’s out on May 24, where Harley’s voice soars over a musical bed of deep keys and smooth beats.

Says Alexa Harley of the song, “‘Black and Blue’ was written out of necessity – it expresses the emotions one goes through when experiencing a deep regret, but also addresses a universal human need of wanting to be loved and accepted for who we are.”
