Denis Rodd 5 Tracks of the Moment

Denis_Rodd

Last month we introduced you to Berlin-based DJ/producer Denis Rodd. The proprietor of Cochlea Music, Rodd’s expansive sound explores house and techno.

In April Rodd dropped his excellent Embryo EP, a strong release espousing his tech-house manifesto, and we were extremely pleased to world premiere his glistening track “Crisalida.”

As we await future releases from Rodd and his imprint, we asked him to share five tracks that are currently rocking his musical world.

1. Justin Martin – “Midnight” (feat. Christian Martin)
I really like this track to start or for a twist in a DJ set because it takes attention. It is groovy, but doesn’t have a classical rhythm [but has] big basslines. It is also an old-school sound, but it sounds very fresh. I love also the synth layers/sounds.

2. The Invisible – “Life’s Dancers” (Floating Points Remix)
I listened to the first Floating Points album a lot (I still do it). He has his own sound where he mixes soul, house and funk with great synth textures. This track is not from his album but has something fresh; a lot of soul, funky drums and bassline. Great track to close a DJ set, but to also listen to at home.

3. Tony Allen – “Kilode” (Carl Craig Straight Remix)
Beautiful remix from Carl Craig of this anthem by Tony Allen. Very funky Afrobeat. Great [track] to do long mixes between two tracks and use the drums and the voice as a mash-up!

4. Paul McCartney & Wings vs. Timo Maas & James Teej – “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five “(Kerri Chandler Kaoz 623 Again Vocal Mix)
A secret weapon that always works on the dance floor — it’s powerful and very groovy and the voice of Paul McCartney is in the club. I like songs which bring something known in a new context.

5. Ø [Phase] – “Perplexed” (Rødhåd’s Extended Mix)
I love this song. It is to dance introspectively with closed eyes because it is very hypnotic. With this song I was aware that I loved techno or this kind of techno. Before I didn’t like it so much.
