Bristol-based brothers Tom and Ian Griffiths are crafting some of the finest deep, emotive house we’ve heard this year. Producing and DJing together as Icarus, you may have already heard their breathtaking cuts “Home,” “October” or caught Annie Mac’s premiere of their new single “They Are Not Like You” last month. There’s also their brilliant remix of Bat For Lashes’ “Sunday Love” that’s guaranteed to make your heart skip a beat.
After an event summer performing at festivals including Bestival, Parklife and Lovebox, the brothers are gearing up for select dates in the UK and Dubai in the coming weeks. Before they hit the road, we asked the Griffiths to tell us about five tracks they currently can’t live without.
1. Mura Masa – “Love$ick” (Fourtet Remix)
The original is a beast, but we’re loving what Fourtet has brought to this to keep it fresh! He’s been sympathetic to the original but has given it a nice, flowing groove which is working for us.
2. Kidnap Kid – “Broken Hearted”
We’re huge fans of Kidnap Kid and have been for years. We’re always keen to hear what he comes with next, and each release just gets more and more exciting. This one is a personal favorite.
3. Majid Jordan – “My Love” (Remix)
Speeding things uptempo wise with this one. Absolutely love what this duo are doing. Their writing and production is very inspiring. This remix is simple and effective, and that’s why we like it! We frequently drop “Forever” in our DJ sets.
4. TEK.LUN – “Aburoy”
We recently discovered this track through a friend of ours. It’s got such a feel-good vibe to it, so we had to include it! Loving the use of samples in this one. We’ll be keeping an ear out for new TEK.LUN, for sure.
5. Luttrell – “Need You”
This one has been a proper grower. We started playing it in our sets a few weeks back and it sounds better and better every time we play it. 3:37 is a real ‘moment’ in a club!
