Carlo Lio is having the best year ever. For him 2014 has been filled with nonstop DJ gigs all over the world and issuing a flurry of deep, techy tracks and remixes. If that weren’t enough, he’s also been co-running the Union label/party with Toronto homies Nathan Barato and The Junkies. Where does he find the time?!
With Christmas around the corner, Lio will give the Big Apple an early present this weekend in the form of a DJ set at Pacha NYC. Expect him to bring some serious heat to the club’s legendary dance floor.
In advance of his gig, we checked in with Lio and asked him to talk up five artists he’s currently pumped about.
Carlo Lio plays Pacha NYC on December 20.
1. The Junkies
This track was recently released on Tiga’s Turbo Recordings, and I’ve been killing it since the day I got my hands on it. The groove is perfect and it’s one of those tunes I feel I can play early in the night to get people going, or at peak to keep the momentum. Not always easy to do that!
2. Nathan Barato
Another Toronto native, my bro Nathan Barato has been on a music tear lately. The original was a massive track this past summer and it’s great to see him remix. It’s impossible not to bop your head to this track. This will definitely get a ton of my play in my more house/groovier sets.
3. Truncate
The main name in techno right now I think! It’s hard for this guy to ever disappoint. This particular tracks works every time for me. It has a huge groove, a stripped down old-school vibe and simple vocal chops. Totally up my alley!
4. Whities
Just recently stumbled on this dude and instantly fell it love. Driving, quirky, sexy, pulsing beats, and I was instantly hooked. This has been a stormer for me in my sets.
5. Bjarki
This is on the V/A comp of Nina Kraviz’s new label. It has bad-ass swag and thumps like crazy. Thisis that one track during the night where people bite their lip or look at each other and say WTF!
