How was 2018 for you?
K.C. Maloney: It was, all in all, a pretty decent year for me. I try my best not to get distracted by all the external horrors that haunt our collective time in America.
Highlights?
I released my first full-length LP, Del Mar, which has been pretty well received. It’s also my first release to be pressed to vinyl. I grew up collecting vinyl so this is a childhood dream come true. Very surreal to hold it in my hands. In a world of streaming and digital music you kind of forget how cool it is to have music on a physical medium. A few of my songs were featured in TV shows, which was pretty neat; something I can tell my mom about. I sang the hook on a rad track with Del The Funky Homosapien & Amp Live which was released in April. I had the incredible experience of collaborating with people like Adaline, Christian Gibson, and techno legend John Tejada. And to top it all off, my husband and I adopted a new cat, Ginger aka Gingles aka Gimblett.
Lowlights?
Like I mentioned earlier, I try my best to ignore all the terrible shit happening in the world. I don’t know if that’s healthy or not but it’s the only way I can stay sane. Sometimes it gets to me though. Luckily, writing music is a good way to vent anger and frustration.
Song of the year?
Jack Stauber – Two Time
What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I want to do a proper Adult Karate tour either on my own or opening for a bigger act. I’ve gotten a lot more confident with my live show, and I want to share it with as many willing people as possible. If I haven’t toured by this time next year, I give you, Big Shot Magazine, permission to slap me in the face.
