Las Vegas Gets Two Nightclubs in April: Light and Hakkasan

Hakkasan-Las-Vegas

Las Vegas’ club scene continues to explode with Light at Mandalay Bay and Hakkasan announcing they will both open in April. Light, a state-of-the-art nightclub operated by Cirque du Soleil and The Light Group, will present resident Nicky Romero, Clockwork and Andy Caldwell on April 26, followed by resident Axwell with Hook N Sling on April 27. The club says it has “confirmed partnerships” with world-renowned DJs including Skrillex, Sebastian Ingrosso, Alesso, Baauer, Thomas Gold, A-Trak, Mat Zo, Otto Knows and many others.

Hakkasan, a five-level culinary/nightlife experience, will open its Las Vegas outpost on April 18 at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. The club, which is sprawled out over 10,000 square feet on the fifth floor of a spectacular building, will also feature state-of-the-art design and technology , promising DJ talent including Tiësto, Calvin Harris, deadmau5, Steve Aoki, Bambi, Bingo Players, Bob Sinclar, Dada Life, Danny Avila, Fergie (DJ), Hardwell, Laidback Luke, Michael Woods, NERVO, Quintino, R3HAB and Tommy Trash.

The influx of nightclubs in Sin City will no doubt be a boon to DJs given that both clubs are well financed. But will both clubs’ deep pockets lead to a bidding war for DJ talent? We’ll find out soon enough.

Obligatory press release gush from Alex Tear, vice president of programming and operations for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Miami: “It’s an exciting time in Miami when an entire radio station can dedicate All Things Dance programming 24 hours a day, seven days a week!” Miami is one of the hottest cities to experience dance music – and now that Evolution 93.5 Miami is here with EDM tastemaker Pete Tong, the party won’t stop.”

Obligatory press release gush from Pete Tong: “I’ve been coming to Miami for over fifteen years to DJ and attend March’s Winter Music Conference and Ultra Week. It’s one of the most important dates in the DJ year, and the City of Miami has always been a special and progressive market for dance music. To be launching the second Evolution terrestrial station in Miami in March is amazing, and a real highlight of my career. I can’t wait for us to begin broadcasting Evolution and All Gone Pete Tong to this special city on a daily basis.”

The station can also be heard online on iHeartRadio.

Skrillex and Diplo Played Secret L.A. Party Last Night For DANCE (RED), Save Lives [Gallery]

Skrillex and Diplo at RED DANCE

Last night Grammy nominees Skrillex, Diplo, Kaskade, Nero and Tommy Trash played a secret pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles at the AT&T Building. The bash featuring the cadre of respected DJs had a noble purpose: to raise awareness of DANCE (RED), Save Lives, the electronic music branch of Bono and Bobby Shriver’s RED charity that’s engaging businesses in the global fight against AIDS. It was an intimate evening to say the least: only 20 sets of four tickets to the private event were auctioned off via global charity auction site Charitybuzz.com. An auction featuring loads of memorabilia and the opportunity to meet artists from many genres ends tonight. If the auction is too rich for your blood (or you simply don’t fancy paying a few grand to hang out with Steven Tyler or Barry Manilow), then take the path of least resistance by purchasing the DANCE (RED), Save Lives Presented By Tiësto album.
