It’s good to be a ghost. Well, at least one sonic spook in particular. Nick Millhiser, best known as one half of the synth-pop duo Holy Ghost!, is in the enviable position of having purchased a three-story building on Manhattan Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for the tidy sum of $2.6 million smackers. Apparently his sister, fashion stylist to the stars Lilli Millhiser, went in with him on the edifice, which currently hosts a bodega on its first floor and two units above. It’s definitely the polar opposite of the over-the-top home purchases made by EDMers Zedd, Avicii, Calvin Harris and Borgore.
Have Holy Ghost!’s two albums on DFA earned enough to finance such a purchase, or has Millhiser been out robbing banks in between gigs? Will that bodega become a music studio? Or maybe a headquarters for Ms. Millhiser’s fashion activities? Or will it simply remain as is, and have one of the hippest landlords on the block? Time will undoubtedly answer at least most of these questions. And hey — since the family who previously owned the building was there since the ’80s, they undoubtedly made a hefty profit on the sale. In the end let’s hope they’ll “pay it forward,” and put some of that money into starting up a new record label or something.
