According to reports on social media New York-based DJ/producer Jason Jinx (real name: Jason Zambito) has passed away. The cause of death is not yet known.
Jason established himself as a mainstay on the NYC rave and club scene in the late ’80s/early ’90s.
Having followed his career since the beginning, and interviewed him on several occasions, what always struck me about his artistry — a versatile blend of new- and old-school sounds — is how easily he could navigate between the worlds of house, techno, drum ‘n’ bass, tribal, breakbeat, hip-hop and industrial music with ease.
His first residency was at the famed NASA party at the Shelter. He went on to play at various Big Apple nightspots including The Tunnel and Limelight.
As a producer/remixer he crafted tracks for a length list of labels including Sm:)e, Maxi, Subliminal, Toolroom Trax, Defected, Strictly Rhythm, Groove On, Moody, Subversive, Ovum, and King Street.
Under the moniker Joystick, Jinx has made a lot of noise on the Yoshitoshi label with cuts like “Go Insane,” “Spinnin Around” and the Chelate EP, as well as his remixes of Eddie Amador’s “Rise,” Mysterious People’s “Fly Away” and PQM’s “The Flying Song.”
This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more about Jason’s passing.

Dedicated in memory of Jason Jinx, Jason was from the original line-up of STORMrave DJ's going back to 1990 when we first opened up Groove Records in Brooklyn. This track in its original form was known as a STORMrave anthem back in 1991. https://t.co/JyXylvjN3J
