Washington, D.C.-based dub-downtempo outfit Thievery Corporation are on their grind. Fresh from releasing their latest full-length album in February, The Temple of I & I via ESL Records, and playing an array of headlining shows and festivals in Europe, the collective led by Rob Garza and Eric Hilton have announced a 20-date US tour.
Their trek begins on September 27 at The Fillmore Philadelphia and comes after playing a pair of shows at the prestigious John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, where they were accompanied by a 22-piece orchestra conducted by Teddy Abrams.
“This was an incredible opportunity to stretch the bounds of our music with 22 virtuoso players and perform in the famed Kennedy Center Concert Hall,” Eric Hilton says of the performance. “To go from where we started as two young guys with limited gear in a make-shift studio to receiving this type of opportunity and recognition is truly a highlight in our career.”
“The Temple of I & I is a place of worship that exists only in our imagination; a place where all people are chosen people and the unity of living things is possible,” explains Hilton about the album’s title. “So much of the world is divided into tribes and belief systems that have imprisoned people’s consciousness and allowed a few to control the many. Culture can be a blessing and a curse. Humanity transcends tribe and culture. This has been a constant theme in Thievery Corporation’s message since day one”
