Sad news to report. Prince Be, who was half of breakthrough ’90s group PM Dawn, died today of renal kidney disease at a hospital in his home state of New Jersey. He was 46. Prince Be, who was born Attwell Cordes, is survived by his wife Mary and three children: Christian, Mia and Brandon. Formed in Jersey City, NJ, PM Dawn earned international acclaim for hits including “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” (which sampled Spandau Ballet’s new wave hit “True”) and “I’d Die Without You.” Their songs transcended categorization by melding pop, soul, rap and dance music. In fact, on their hip-house single “Shake” they paid tribute to New York City house legend Todd Terry with the refrain “Everyone thank Todd Terry.” A post on the group’s Facebook page announced the singer’s passing: “Prince Be Rest In Peace forever more, Pain from Diabetes can’t harm you anymore, My Heart is at Peace B-Cuz U suffered so long, Tell Grandma I said Hi & Stay Blisstatic & Strong.”
