French dance duo Cassius have been fairly quiet since issuing 2006’s 15 Again. When they surfaced in March with “Action” featuring Cat Power and Mike D from Beastie Boys, it was obvious that there was more new music in the pipeline. Today the twosome announced the upcoming release of their first album in 10 years. Set for release on June 24, Ibifornia finds Philippe Cerboneschi and Hubert Blanc-Francard, better known as Philippe Zdar and Boom Bass, working with a coterie of big-name collaborators including Pharrell Williams, Ryan Tedder, John Gourley Of Portugal. The Man, And Jaw.
The concept of the album is built around Ibifornia (a melding of Ibiza and California), a utopian society which the twosome say is “inside every one of us.” The LP apparently finds them tapping into a wealth of music styles such as disco, house, funk, afrobeat and synth-pop.
“This album, for the first time in our life, has something which is more,” Zdar told Pitchfork. “It’s not only a collection of tracks. It’s really offering a way of thinking (laughs) about your life — finding your Ibifornia. And go there and be happy there. There are too many moments where we don’t do what we want to do. This place is super powerful for us.”
