If we subscribed to making declarative year-end statements, then we would’ve crowned HÆLOS—Arthur Delaney, Dom Goldsmith and Lotti Benardout— our band of 2015. But we don’t normally do that sort of thing so we didn’t. That didn’t prevent us from falling head over heels for HÆLOS last year. Their dark, brooding electronic-pop sound took hold of us and served as the soundtrack for much of the year. It all began when we heard their stellar cover of The Beloved’s “The Sun Rising,” one of our all-time favorite ’90s tracks. Then they dropped the glorious Earth Not Above EP and a string of videos. We were hooked.
The enigmatic UK trio—who we’ve gone out of our way to not know anything about in order to maintain what we perceive to be their aloof mystique—will present their full-length debut, Full Circle, on March 18 via Matador Records. Seriously, we can’t wait to get hold of it.
In conjunction with news of their upcoming full-length the trio released the video for their new track “Oracle” and have a series of live days starting on January 15 as well as gigs at SXSW and Coachella.
2016’s band of the year? Probably. But you didn’t hear it from us.
