Zane Lowe, one of the UK’s biggest radio DJs, has announced he is leaving BBC Radio 1 after more than a decade behind the mic for a new position in California at Apple’s music service. Lowe will host his last show on March 5 and will be replaced by Annie Mac.

“I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 for their support and friendship,” said Lowe, 41. “The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country’s best music fans.”

Annie Mac said she was “excited and humbled” at the opportunity of taking over Lowe’s program.

What exactly will the New Zealander be doing at Apple? Thats not exactly clear at the moment. Known for being an early champion of acts like Arctic Monkeys, Adele and Ed Sheeran and scoring exclusive interviews with pop icons ranging from Chris Martin from Coldplay to Kanye West, Lowe brings his trusted ears and an international perspective to the Cupertino behemoth.
