Avicii’s Boston Show Sends Dozens to Hospital

When Swedish EDM star Avicii (check out pictures of his Hollywood mansion here) posted on Facebook “Starting tonight in TD Garden, Boston. Hard to put words on how excited I am…” he had no idea that his show last night would be marred by fans being rushed to the hospital.

Citing the overuse of alcohol and drugs (c’mon people, stop the idiocy!), Boston police said dozens of concert attendees were rushed to the hospital by ambulance. About 50 people were treated, and there were no fatalities reported.

Many of those attending the show arrived were already intoxicated, said Boston EMS Deputy Superintendent Mike Bosse.“Fortunately no one was seriously injured. Mostly underaged kids involved in alcohol and or some illicit drugs,” Bosse told the Boston Herald. “This is a mass casualty incident that greatly impacts our resources, Boston police resources as well as area hospitals.”

Local TV station WHDH quoted a concert-goer saying, “A good amount of people were under the influence of drugs. A lot of ambulances showed up to take away a lot of people who were not okay to stay at the concert.”

Avicci’s show went on uninterrupted. Police are currently investigating what transpired last night with many citing severe heat and humidity as a contributor to last night’s incident.

According to USA Today, Avicii spokeswoman Diana Baron said she was waiting for a full report from the venue and promoter, Live Nation, in an article that unfairly associates the DJ with two deaths at Electric Daisy Carnival last weekend since he was on the bill.

While this isn’t the first time there’s been trouble at one of Avicii’s shows — at a May Avicii concert in Toronto, 29 people were reportedly hospitalized with various degrees of health problems — Avicii (whose music this publication isn’t a fan of) shouldn’t be blamed by fans whose idea of having a good time is dangerous and plain stupid.
