How was 2018 for you?
Red Pig Flower: For me 2018 was the year I dedicated to my label, Sound of Vast. Next year we are preparing a five-year anniversary VA vinyl series. For this I’ve been collecting and communicating with more than 15 amazing artists and brought few new artists aboard. During the journey I came up with interesting collaborations and discovered amazing talents,
Highlights?
I had such an amazing year, and I had many beautiful moments I appreciated a lot. But if I have to choose I pick the night when Subb-an and Adam Shelton invited me to their one record label showcases at the Watergate. Both of them are definitely my favorite British producers — Subb-an’s “The Lovers Night” is still on my record bag all the time even though it’s almost 10 years old. Sharing the decks all night long with them at the Watergate was more like my childhood dream come true. Thanks again for both of them.
Lowlights?
When my Sri Lanka and Indian tour got cancelled. I found it extremely hard to communicate with the promoters over there as they always changed the tour date and deals. I had to empty a whole month to make this tour happens and also got so much stress to deal with this promoters who changed their minds everyday. I couldn’t feel any respect from them. In the end the promoter vanished and I had to cancel the whole tour. I don’t think all the promoters in Sri Lanka and India are unprofessional like this…but I learnt a lesson the hard way and definitely I will be much more careful next time.
Song of the year?
Com Sin (aka Cosmin trg)’s “Miere.” This track shows its real power when you play this in the club, not only hypnotic melody and four-dimensional percussion play are great, the sub and low frequency area is shockingly strong which he brought the techniques from techno production. This distinguished this track from other Romanian minimal tracks you can usually find.
What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I’m heading to couple of important releases on 2019. In January I have my EP Thought Crime, and I found out the release date is actually on my birthday. Hopefully this release is successful and I can celebrate my birthday well. Also, I’m planning to have female producer-only vinyl next year on SOV.
