2017 Rewind: Fiona Soe Paing

FionaSoePaing

How was 2017 for you?
Fiona Soe Paing: Exhausting but fun! As well as my own solo project, I’ve started doing a few collabs with theatre group Dudendance and filmmaker Sara Stroud, which have been a nice challenge.

Highlights?
Doing a live show that was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Hooking up with NY-based avant-diva extraordinaire Marilyn Carino, a wee collab. project is coming soon! Watching people freaking out dancing to my set at Kelburn Garden Party.

Lowlights?
Getting labyrinthitis which feels like you are drunk, but without any of the good parts! I got so sick that I couldn’t be at the awesome light and sound festival Enlighten Bury to perform live and witness the “Nomads” installation, which I did the sound for, in collaboration with eight visual artists from across the UK, and missing sets by Plaid and Hannah Peel. 🙁

Song of the year?
“Los Ageless” by St. Vincent. A totally perfect and quirkily gorgeous pop song with the best singalong chorus ever.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Spend more time singing and less time in front of a computer screen! Try and make the production of my “difficult second album” a lot less time-consuming and more fun than the first one, which took me about ten years!
