How was 2017 for you?
Ultra Naté: 2017 has been crazy and amazing at the same time. Just when I think I’ve got my head around this business it kicks it up a notch to remind me it’s every changing! I was as busy as I have ever been this year, and I’m extremely happy for that. I was able to see another album I have been working on and waiting to release for many years become fully realized and appreciated for what it is authentically even in this this singles-driven marketplace!
Highlights?
My biggest highlight was the day of release for Black Stereo Faith the album – it went top 10 on iTunes Top 200 Dance Albums Chart and that was pretty remarkable for me as a small independent label making it amongst albums by Calvin Harris, Tiësto and many others who have the major machines behind them!
Lowlights?
The closing of The Paradox after 27 years. The club was the last of the old school analog system after-hours and has been the backbone for launching many careers as well as a place for community and acceptance that many of us grew up in.
Song of the year?
It’s hard for me to nail down one song with so much good music finally cutting through the noise.
What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I don’t really do resolutions. I start over or take on new initiatives and directions constantly! I don’t really need one specific date to give me license to refresh, change or begin an effort.
