With a palpable buzz emanating across the Atlantic courtesy of their jam “Cut Some Shapes,” genre defying UK DJ/production duo Riddim Commission — Marco Del Horno (Bullet Train Records boss/BBC Radio 1Xtra/Rinse FM host) and Swerve (Kiss FM) — just dropped their debut album, Riddim.Bass.Life.
The full-length arrives after an array of musical exploits, including dropping their notable “Intimidating Love” collaboration with Roger Sanchez and Richard Judge in 2016.
Boasting a kinetic sound informed by house, grime, garage and hip-hop, Riddim.Bass.Life features a list of phenomenal collaborators including D Double E, Eve, Stush, Doctor, MC Neat, Scrufizzer, Neutrino and Rye Rye.
With the album now out for the masses to enjoy, we connected with Marco and Swerve and asked them to share five tracks that are currently dominating their DJ sets.
Shift K3Y – “Come With It”
Shift K3Y is so versatile and the rawness of this one is sick. It just feels like a chunky NYC house record but with a new-school twist. We’ve been working this one into the sets recently and it’s been killing it.
Sinden & Lo’99 – “WGWN”
Great combined effort between our buddy Sinden and Australia’s Lo’99. There’s a bit before the second drop where the drums go crazy. When we performing with Stush on BBC 1Xtra recently one of the best bits was her freestyling over this record.
Will Clarke – “Techno” (Solardo Remix)
We love what the Solardo lads are doing at the moment. This one is such a hooky ear worm — once you hear it you can’t get it out of your head. To be clear, it’s not a techno record either!
Phlegmatic Dogs – “High Volume”
A slice of 2017 speed garage straight out of Russia. We’ve been supporting them for time and they’ve even remixed on of our releases on Night Bass. It’s getting to the point we have to be careful not to include too many of their tunes in our sets. It’s tough though because they work so well — especially when we have MCs with us as they relate to that old-school garage vibe even though these are 2017 records.
Taiki Nulight – “I Mean”
Taiki’s on fire at the moment and this was our favorite track of his Moody Agent EP out on Insomniac. This is another one that works really well when we have the MCs with us on a set. Scrufizzer and D Double murdered this one when we were on Rinse with Marcus Nasty last month!
