Steven Lee’s 5 Tracks of the Moment

DJ/producer/fitness pro Steven Lee has consistently delivered the goods as part of house duo Lee Cabrera. Now he’s taking his music to the next level by collaborating with pop-soul songstress Macy Gray and Metalheadz boss Goldie on the forthcoming “SuperHero,” a track that’s receiving a lot of buzz before its official release. “SuperHero” sets the stage for Lee’s solo album, #TeamWork. Lee’s upcoming #TeamWork Live global album tour will feature the aforementioned Gray and Goldie as well as Flo Rider and Thomas Gold. Does this guy have connections or what?

We checked in with the multihyphenate and asked him to share five songs he can’t live without at the moment.

1. Full Crate x Mar – “Nobody Else” (Hotel Garuda remix) (FCXM Music)
Usually known for their Live Sax takes on remixes for Disclosure and Corona, this duo leave their brass behind and replace it with bass on the “Nobody Else” remix. It’s a hot transition tune with some bounce in this remix, making it something I can get down to early or late in my sets.

2. Matroda – “Wooltsier” (Plasma Digital)
“Woolstier” is that perfect record that when I drop it, it means for the next hour I get to go big and nasty with my bass-driven stuff and that makes me smile as a DJ. I love them cool stabbing piano chords which give the record just enough musical touch to segue into even more crunch. Huge tune for me on tour!

3. Oliver Heldens feat. KStewart – “Last All Night” (Spinnin’)
Oliver is the man of the moment, and I have to commend him for bridging that EDM thing into a simple and effective EDM thing. I’m actually remixing his new “Melody” tune as we speak! KStewart has that super fresh authentic voice that we all heard roar in the peak years of Whitney Houston. Homegirl has range and can scream at me anytime she wants! Classy peak-hour tune!

4. Steve Lawler – “House Record” (Hot Creations)
Steve Mother F****N Lawler (as my friends and I call him) has been and still is one of the baddest men on the planet. HC should be so lucky to have such a tune on their imprint. This tune is so fun to play out and Lawler’s way of “back to basics” is just pure dope house music.

5. Ludacris, Jeremih, Cashmere Cat, Wiz Khalifa – “Party Girls” (Brodinski remix) (Southern Hospitality)
More all-stars on this record then the NBA’s Dream Team but it’s badass Brodinski that gives them all a lesson of what beats should sound like on this tune. Perfect blend of toughness, grit and bounce. I certainly took notes!
