George Evelyn of Nightmares On Wax’s 5 Artists of the Moment on SoundCloud

George Evelyn of Nightmares on Wax

It seems like yesterday when Nightmares on Wax released 1995’s Smokers Delight, an album which spawned the classic downtempo track “Nights Introlude” featured on a zillion after hours compilations. Originally a collaboration between George Evelyn and Kevin Harper, Evelyn has taken NOW into compelling musical waters, constantly innovating and pushing his music forward on his own terms along with musical partner Robin Taylor-Firth.

In June Evelyn (a.k.a. DJ E.A.S.E) issued N.O.W. Is The Time, a compilation celebrating 25 years of making music. The massive two-disc release features hits like “You Wish,” “Mind Eye” and “Dextrous” as well as unreleased material and classic remixes by the likes of Ashley Beedle, Morgan Geist, LFO, Loco Dice and more.

Currently on tour to support the release, we caught up with Evelyn and asked him to share his five favorite artists of the moment on SoundCloud.

Nightmares on Wax’s N.O.W. Is The Time is out now on Warped. Catch Nightmares on Wax at Asheville Music Hall in Asheville, NC, on July 16 and Forecastle Festival in Louisville, KY, on July 18-20.

1. Mad Satta – “Reach Out”
Great new group out of upstate New York. I just love the feel and energy of this song.

2. De La Soul feat Common – “The Business” (Paul Nice remix)
A classic. I’m feeling the way that Paul Nice has taken this song — it’s the essence of hip-hop.

3. DJ Vadim feat. Demolition man – “Lyrical Soldier”
Loving this track so much at the moment. Great song from a great producer. Taken from the Dubcatcher album which super good too!

4. Carlton & The Shoes – “Let Me Love You”
Studio on style and perfect time for the BBQ season, if this does not make you smile then you must be sleeping!

5. DJ Center – “Dem Say Ah (feat. Akoya Afrobeat)”
Been playing this out a lot. My kind of Afro house vibe — sunshine all the way with this song.
