Diplo is Apparently Dating Katy Perry

Diplo-and-Katy-Perry

It’s official, according to gossip websites at least: DJ/producer/Mad Decent honcho/twerk enthusiast Diplo is dating pop star Katy Perry. We normally don’t pay much attention to scuttlebutt like this, but there is something interesting about the alleged romance in lieu of the type of women Diplo (who once dated M.I.A.) typically favors in his shows. Apparently the two were seen gallivanting together at Coachella and that’s set off a lot of interest in what could be happening between the two artists. According to the New York Post, “Katy and Diplo hooked up at Coachella. They were together behind the main stage, where she had a tour bus or trailer, and a group of her friends were hanging out. It was very obvious that Katy and Diplo were together. They seemed inseparable and at one point they were seen getting onto her bus together.”

The pair were “inseparable” at a party for designer Jeremy Scott and Adidas on Saturday night. Radar Online reported, “They’ve been friends forever … It definitely looked like more than that! At one point he even had his arms around her.”

Had her arms around her? That sounds absolutely scandalous.

But the weekend at Coachella wasn’t without drama. Radar Online reports that one female fan got too close to Diplo, posing for several pics and hanging all over him. That didn’t go down with Perry. “Katy had the girl thrown out!” the source claims. “She was yelling and kind of upset about it. The girl didn’t have a wristband and was a total sloppy party crasher, but still, it was kind of surprising.”

Neither of the two posted pictures of themselves together at Coachella, but Diplo did post this awesome “selfie” on Instagram.

Inside Drai’s Beach Club & Nightclub in Las Vegas Opening Memorial Day

Drai's Beach Club Las Vegas

Situated 11 stories above the Las Vegas Strip atop The Cromwell boutique hotel, Drai’s Beach Club is promising to take Sin City’s club scene to the next level. Literally. A 360-degree two-level experience with multiple pools, mixology bars, elevated DJ booth, VIP luxury cabanas and gourmet food, the breathtaking venue features ten, 35-foot palm trees offering guests shade from Las Vegas’ blistering dry heat. In fact, in order to get the palm trees positioned on the hotel’s roof, a gigantic crane had to be brought in for the task.

“I’ve been dreaming of building a day/night club for the past 15 years,” explained Victor Drai, the nightlife impresario behind the operation, in a statement. “With the creation of The Cromwell, the opportunity finally arrived to make my dream a reality. The Beach Club and pools at Drai’s Beach Club will be like nothing that exists in Las Vegas. The size, scope and attention to detail, design and guest experience has driven our concept. I always build my venues so that there is a ‘wow’ factor from the minute you arrive. When a guest steps off the elevator, they are going to marvel at what we have built and the never before-seen-view will provide an unforgettable experience.”

DJs will be a central focus for Drai’s music program. So far 17 resident top-notch DJs have been named including Eric Prydz, Adventure Club, Showtek, DVBBS, Arty and 12th Planet.

“We are booking artists that will ignite the crowd and create an energy that is missing from many Las Vegas clubs today,” added talent buyer. “You won’t come to Drai’s and stand there holding your camera phone above your head aimed at a DJ a football field away. Instead, you are going to be in the middle of the biggest dance party on the Strip.”

Detroit Techno Veteran Terrence Dixon Retires Via Facebook

Terrence Dixon

Forget farewell press releases and goodbye tours. Veteran Detroit techno DJ/producer Terrence Dixon has announced his retirement from music via a one-sentence post on his Facebook. “I’m retired after 20 years of making music. Thank you.” Dixon, who was aligned with fellow Motor City artist Juan Atkins, was known globally for his deep, minimal style via releases on Metroplex. His production career started in 1994, producing his Live From Detroit EP for Utensil Records. He went on to record for Tresor, Background and Rush Hour, staying away from the spotlight while producing music as he wished. An underground artist goes out on his own terms. There’s something almost poetic in that.

Watch Your Back, Martin Garrix: 10-Year-Old Producer Aiden Jude Readies Debut

aiden jude

Every mention — including this one — of Martin Garrix’s massive success courtesy of his breakthrough EDM track “Animals” relates that he’s only 17. While DJs and dance-music producers are indeed getting younger (Bondax, Madeon, Danny Avila) , 10-year-old New York-based DJ/producer Aiden Jude is eyeing the big time with his upcoming debut, “Tonight,” due out April 14 on Shap Records. The fifth grader’s uncle Coleman apparently “made his mark in the fashion world and high end events starting in the early 90’s” so it looks like a taste for music runs in the family along with some pretty deep connections.

Looking at his social media accounts (which don’t seem like they’re maintained by a 10-year-old) , young Jude really likes ice creamY-3 sneakers and skiing. He apparently went to Winter Music Conference and ran into Paris Hilton and Kaskade, taking buddy pictures with both of them.

Jude will also release a remix EP on April 28 and is readying — brace yourself — to make his LA debut with three gigs: April 16 at The Attic with Mobb Deep and DJ Equal; April 17 at Hooray Henrey’s; and April 18 at The Supperclub. Could an appearance at Ultra Music Festival in his future? I wouldn’t bet against it at this point.
