Tobacco of Black Moth Super Rainbow Aligns with Ghostly for His Most ‘Purposely Difficult’ Album

Known for helming the wildly experimental Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania psychedelic electronic outfit Black Moth Super Rainbow, producer Tobacco has announced that this third album, Ultima II Massage, will be released May 13 via Ghostly Records. He will prime the proverbial pump for the new album by kicking off a string of club dates beginning on April 12 at 123 Pleasant Street in Morgantown, WV (see full list of tour dates below).

Talking about his way of working for the album, Tobacco says he didn’t go for putting needles into the red for every song. “I wanted to push each song just enough, so that even when the album’s at its wildest, it’s something you can zone out to. It feels like a definitive end to a concept I’ve been trying to perfect forever. Maniac Meat was linear. This time I wanted to do a lot of different things and have them come together as one meditative piece. At least for myself.”

He added, “This might be my most purposely difficult album yet, but I promise if you let it in, it can fuck you up.”

Glasgow Underground Issue Remixes of DJ Legend Romanthony’s “Trust”

In May 2013 the DJ world unexpectedly lost ’90s house music legend Romanthony. Known for his spectacular productions and tracks (“Let Me Show You Love” and “The Wanderer”) as well as high-profile collaborations with Daft Punk (“One More Time” and “Too Long”) and Kris Menace (“2Nite4U”), Romanthony brought an intense, uncompromising musicality to everything he did.

To keep the innovator’s music alive, Kevin McKay’s Glasgow Underground label just released three remixes of Romanthony’s “Trust” reimagined by a collection of remixers including Germany’s Motor City Drum Ensemble, UK duo Mia Dora and Spain’s Daniel Trim. All three come with different vibes, much like Romanthony’s body of work. Have a listen below.

Watch Out, Spotify: Beats by Dre Launching Daisy Music Streaming Service

beats music

Beats by Dre, the headphone manufacturer launched by music producer and executive Jimmy Iovine and producer Dr. Dre in 2008, is launching a music streaming service called Daisy on January 21. The announcement comes after Beats Electronics’ purchase of MOG, an on-demand subscription service, in 2012. Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor has been name chief creative officer of the start-up.

Daisy, which will be supported on iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile phone, will roll out first in America and promises better music curation (courtesy of the folks at Rolling Stone and Pitchfork) and recommendation features. An upcoming marketing campaign will likely make the service omnipresent in the coming weeks. It will launch with a bundle package offered by AT&T ($10 for individual plans; $15 for a family plan with up to five users), regular plugs on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, promotions at Target and even a rumored Super Bowl ad.

The company is entering a field already occupied by Spotify, Google, Pandora and other services but Iovine is confident that he is bringing a game changer to the market. “What’s missing from the digital music landscape is a cultural context,” said Iovine in a press release. “We need to bring an emotional connection back to the act of music discovery. With Trent and now Ian we have the right team in place to do it.”

While many are already hoping that Beats Music lives up to the hype, here’s hoping that the new service is DJ-friendly.
