Detroit Ghetto Tech Pioneer DJ Godfather Launches New Label
Detroit’s DJ Godfather (a.k.a. Brian Jeffries) has been championing the raw beats and grooves of Ghetto Tech since the ’90s. Known for running the Twilight 76 label and its assorted sub labels with partners DJ Dick and Brian Gillespie, he’s announced the launch of a new imprint: Dirty Knock. Said DJ Godfather, “With the success we’ve had with ghetto tech music over the years, and the influence we’ve had with new genres of music like twerk and trap music, we are ready to bring it all together under one roof!”
The label’s first release will be Godfather’s Dirty Rats, Booms N Claps EP comprised of “Where The Hoes in this House?’ featuring Oktored, “You So Flexable” featuring the deadmau5 collaborating MC Flipside and the “low-slung roller” “Super Swag” featuring Lil Mz 313.
Godfather reports that Dirty Knock has a slew of releases in the pipeline and teases that some feature big-name collaborations. The Motor City DJ/producer has also launched a weekly Dirty Knock Detroit club night taking place every Thursday.
Warner Bros. to Release ‘The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live At Madison Square Garden’ in May
Almost three years after LCD Soundsystem played their final show on April 2, 2011 at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Warner Bros. will release the entire concert on May 20. Produced and mixed by James Murphy, The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live At Madison Square Garden will contain the entire set — which some people have had for years via bootleg (ahem!) — in its entirety. The release comes after 2012’s acclaimed documentary, Shut Up and Play The Hits, which chronicled the band’s final days. Good news for vinyl buffs: a five-LP set of The Long Goodbye will be be made available on the release day. Something tells us those copies are going to disappear real quick.

Tiga and Audion Collaborate on ‘Fever’ and Take Their Show on the Road
Tiga and Matthew Dear have released their collaborative effort “Fever” culled from Tiga’s upcoming follow-up to 2009’s Ciao! produced under Dear’s Audion alias. A remix package featuring reworkings by Maetrik, Acid Arab, Tom Trago and Kink will drop on April 7.
Obligatory press gush from Audion (a.k.a. Matthew Dear) about the techy single: “Tiga and I worked on ‘Fever’ for an entire day, running it through various tempos, styles and arrangements, but nothing would stick. Then, sometime around 2am, it all clicked. We moved out of the way and the song essentially wrote itself. The vocal hook commanded the new direction, and after it was laid out, we slept. What you hear is that 2am perfection; only reachable when the world and your mind is asleep to all things conscious.”
Tiga vs Audion’s will embark on a mini tour, playing Berghain in Berlin on on April 30,Pressure & Electric Fog: The Riverside Festival, Glasgow, Scotland on May 2 and Oval Space in London on May 4.
