Glasgow Underground Issue Remixes of DJ Legend Romanthony’s “Trust”

romanthony

In May 2013 the DJ world unexpectedly lost ’90s house music legend Romanthony. Known for his spectacular productions and tracks (“Let Me Show You Love” and “The Wanderer”) as well as high-profile collaborations with Daft Punk (“One More Time” and “Too Long”) and Kris Menace (“2Nite4U”), Romanthony brought an intense, uncompromising musicality to everything he did.

To keep the innovator’s music alive, Kevin McKay’s Glasgow Underground label just released three remixes of Romanthony’s “Trust” reimagined by a collection of remixers including Germany’s Motor City Drum Ensemble, UK duo Mia Dora and Spain’s Daniel Trim. All three come with different vibes, much like Romanthony’s body of work. Have a listen below.

Veteran BBC Radio 1 DJ/A&R Pete Tong has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to Broadcasting and Music in the New Year’s Honours List 2014.

Tong, 53, who relocated to Los Angeles this year, said in a statement, “It’s great to receive this honour for being a DJ. I’m proud that it acknowledges a profession that I care about a great deal, and one that’s made a huge impact around the world. I’d like to thank BBC Radio 1 for its unerring commitment to dance and electronic music and for supporting and encouraging me for over two decades. I’d like to thank all the club promoters in the UK and around the world for their passion and commitment to putting on amazing events and the artists producers and DJs that have been making and innovating with the music. This wouldn’t have happened without so many great tunes. Finally, to my family and team who have supported me on this journey in so many ways – thank you.”

A bevy of DJs have taken to Twitter, showing their appreciation for Tong’s award and support for dance music over his lengthy reign.

Our favorite tweet is from fellow MBE recepitent Norman Jay who tweeted: “Hearty congrats to my man @petetong on your fully deserved #MBE – its great to be able to finally say, ‘Welcome to the club mate’! #respect.'”

Anjunabeats Issues Statement About Will.i.am’s Alleged Copyright Infringement

will.i.am

UK label Anjunabeats has issued a statement regarding their assertion that Will.i.am’s track “Let’s Go” featuring Chris Brown sampled Arty and Mat Zo’s “Rebound” collaboration without proper permission. The label issued the statement today to counter an interview Will.i.am gave to the Associated Press where he said, “You can’t steal if you credited somebody. He and I communicated. … It’s not my fault he didn’t tell me about the other guy. So who is to blame? I didn’t know.” The label didn’t mention if they were in the process of seeking financial relief over the matter. Here is Anjunabeats’ statement in its entirety:

Anjunabeats is the record label behind Arty and Mat Zo and owns the master recording rights to their collaboration “Rebound.” Mat Zo and Arty have been important members of the Anjunabeats family for a number of years and “Rebound” was one of the label’s most popular releases in 2011.

As has been widely reported, a large section of “Rebound” was sampled on Will.i.am’s track “Let’s Go featuring Chris Brown” and this took place without the permission of Anjunabeats or Arty & Mat Zo.

Although Arty (but not Mat Zo) was credited in the sleeve notes, this is not the same as obtaining permission. To present someone else’s work as your own, you need to seek permission, agree terms and file paperwork, which has not happened in this case.

We’ve remained silent on this issue until now but as a record label it is our obligation to protect our artists’ interests and we felt it was necessary to respond to some of the inaccuracies that have been reported following Will.i.am’s recent comments to Associated Press.
