2019 Rewind: Omid 16B

Omid 16BHow was 2019 for you?
Omid 16B: After a long period of finishing my Silenciety album, it was good to finally have a little break from studio commitments and go out and socialize a little! I caught up with some old and new peers and also made some nice moves to collaborate with some of my favorite artists! I also stopped smoking and started swimming again, I bought a few new bits of gear and Silenciety is finally available as physical copies as well as digital!

Highlights?
Working with Sarah at Favouritizm made my life so much easier, and I couldn’t have wished for a better partnership doing the Nitty Gritty party with her, Talal and others at House Of St Barnabas raising money for the homeless!

Finally getting the album Silenciety out after seven years of hard work making sure it was what it turned into. The hours, the blood and sweat was something I’d never done before and I had to do it from the heart completely, otherwise I couldn’t go along with it!

As far as my childhood is concerned, being one of their biggest fans, knowing The Cure have a new album coming soon has got me very excited to say the least! Wrapping 2019 with a few tracks confirmed for sync and a new distribution deal for all our labels!

Lowlights?
My JX3 synth breaking down and having to service my Jupiter 6, not sleeping too well after packing in smoking and finding myself wanting to eat more than usual!

Song of the year?
Burial & Four Tet’s “Moth” (Putney-born btw). Sorry, just can’t get sick of listening to this. [There’s] healing energy in there [that] puts a big smile on my face!

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Stay strong, stay focused with my heart at the helm of course, get two more albums out and possibly do another SOS CD and tour … let’s see x.

2019 Rewind: Kasra

kasra

How was 2019 for you?
Kasra: Really good. I released two solo EPs, played some great shows, worked with some really exciting artists, and kept the Critical train rolling. Good times.

Highlights?
Released two EPs; began the working relationships with Particle and Fade Black; played Arcadia at Glastonbury with Insideinfo; and dropped my debut Essential Mix for Radio 1. Also, I bought my first home and dog with my wife.

Lowlights?
Politics, bigots, club closures and the strive for likes.

Song of the year?
D’n’b-wise it probably has to be the Fade Black Remix of “Blej” by Halogenix.

Non DNB its a tie between “Too Real” by Fontaines DC or “For the Guilty” by DIIV

2019 Rewind: AFFKT

AFFKT

How was 2019 for you?
AFFKT: It was a great year so far for me and all the projects I am involved in: running Sincopat imprint and Pobla (mastering studio) and of course as an artist, AFFKT, DJing and producing my own stuff.

Highlights?
I am glad to finally have more time to dedicate more time to write my own music. I’ve been able to compose a lot of new music, and I am really proud with that. The year kicked off with my Manifesto EP on Culprit LA, and closed with a brand new EP entitled Cold Sweat for Sincopat.

Lowlights?
How the music business has been developing. Download sales are going down and streaming income for many labels not a big thing yet. I believe there is an uncertain future of how DJs and non-DJs are consuming music at the moment. I am pretty sure there will be huge changes in both 2020 and 2021.

Song of the year?
Dino Lenny – Tokyo (Damon Jee Remix)

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Start a new album for 2020 and if I am lucky being able to finish it during the year.

2019 Rewind: Kenny Dope

Kenny Dope

How was 2019 for you?
Kenny Dope: 2019 was bittersweet. Played some really amazing shows, both as Kenny Dope and Masters at Work. The travel though – people seem to think it’s glamorous because of social media, but it’s stressful. I just want to be home. Being away from home and my family is the hardest part. But this is what I love to do.

Highlights?
Moved to a new state. Best thing I ever did; I wish I did it sooner. The change of pace and scenery was greatly needed. Getting a fresh start on 2020.

Lowlights?
Moving. Moving sucks, especially when you’re moving 80,000 records and a music studio plus your entire life.

Song of the year?
Rosalía & J Balvin feat. El Guincho – Con Altura (Catz ‘n Dogz Edit)

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
To go into the new year with 2020 vision. I have a lot of goals for 2020. The resolution is to get organized, stay focused and productive on all fronts. Family, music and new endeavors.
