Baltimore-based house music stalwart and Quantize Recordings boss DJ Spen takes control of Big Shot Guest Mix 349.
Over the span of an uplifting 13-track, hour-long session, Spen, who is repped by the folks at MN2S, navigates us through a deep-house voyage featuring tracks and remixes from fellow house music icons including Kenny Bobien, David Morales, Timmy Regisford and Byron Stingily.
“This was a really fun mix,” Spen says. “The first and last songs are remixes I did during the pandemic. They were done for other labels which I normally don’t have time to do. The mix is a little deeper than my usual style but I love to have the opportunity to mix it up a little (no pun intended).” Continue Reading →
Venezuelan DJ/producer/remixer Federico Augusto Ágreda Álvarez (a.k.a. Zardonic) fuses electronic music with strains of metal, hardcore and electro into his sound. Like a moth to a flame, Álvarez is attracted to hard-hitting music and loud amps turned up to 11.
To celebrate the recent release of The Become Remix Albumfeaturing re-rubs by kindred musical spirits including Pythius, Celldweller and Celldweller, Álvarez went into the lab to take control of the latest installment of the Big Shot Guest Mix series.
What’s even better is that he captured the action on video for all of us to enjoy.
Here’s what Álvarez had to say about the session:
“This is one-take, no studio post-edits, completely improvised set from a curated selection of some of my favorite tracks from my sets during the 2018 and 2019 tours for the Become LP. Now with the release of The Become Remix Album, I was able to update some of them with remixes that I had the pleasure of getting from these same artists. Merikan, IHR, The Qemists, Black Sun Empire, The Clamps, Pythius, these are among the people who are saving the modern Drum & Bass sound. I am extremely picky with the tracks I choose to play. There’s a very specific vibe and energy that I’m looking for. If a track doesn’t make me go absolute bananas, it doesn’t go in my playlist. That’s what Zardonic is about: pure, raw, unadulterated energy. And I wouldn’t have this energy in my sets if it wasn’t for these amazing producers that continue to push the envelope. Thank you, Big Shot Mag, for the opportunity. I hope you enjoy this set as much as I enjoyed doing it for you!”

Red-hot Naples-bred house duo M.F.S: Observatory – Mattia Turchetti and Francesco Cozzolino – have been on a creative tear for the better part of the past two years.
In addition to releasing on Smiley Fingers, Danny Serrano’s Eat and Beat and contributing a fiery track to Global Lovers V2: Italy, the London-based duo’s Observatory Music has issued formidable tracks by No Else, Nukem & Pazkal, Black Girl / White Girl and Arado.
As the pair prepare to unveil more dance floor delights, they graciously took time out to craft an exclusive Big Shot Guest Mix. The session arrives before the release of Killed Kassette & M.F.S: Observatory’s Freak It EP out September 27 on Roush.
Over the trajectory of 20 tracks, Mattia and Francesco take us on an incredible journey, featuring their favorite songs of the moment, latest productions and freshest tracks from their label.
Speaking about the mix the pair said, “We have also included songs from our latest collaboration with Andre Salmon released on Percomaniacs and one that will be released soon on Roush label with Killed Kassette. We have included the tracks of some of our favorite producers like Black Girl / White Girl, Subjoi and Luna City Express.”

Having recently dropped his formidable two-track Fade EP on his Beartone Records, Panasa’s session is a wonderful snapshot of where he is musically right now.
He says of the mix, “I really enjoyed making this mix as it features some of the recent releases from my Beartone label and a selection of tracks from artists I am digging at the moment.”
