2019 Rewind: Matchy

MATCHY

How was 2019 for you?
Matchy: 2019 was definitely a great year after kicking of my solo project in 2018. It actually went by way too fast. But I had a lot of wonderful gigs. And in terms of releases it has also been my most successful year as a producer so far.

Highlights?
Oh, there were a couple of highlights like the whole festival summer in Germany, I got to play a lot of beautiful festivals; my Columbia tour;  joining The Cloud for the US and enjoying my time at Art Basel. My track “Irreversible” on Katermukke is still Beatport Top 5 after [several] months and one of the most successful tracks this year. I think I’m missing a few now, but yeah it really could have been worse.

Lowlights?
Well, I didn’t really see any lowlights. This year has also taught me that although I have the greatest job I can imagine, it also comes with some sacrifices. When playing a lot of gigs, it’s sometimes not so easy finding time to spend with your girlfriend and friends. Plus, being productive in the studio becomes more difficult as well.

Song of the year?
It’s not the style I play at gigs but I recently discovered this song, something with Fisher…losing… this one not! Haha.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I already have a couple of goals for next year and besides music I want to live a little bit healthier – that one’s definitely on the list. And as a general suggestion: Take time for the stuff you love and don’t focus on things that won’t let you progress. Sometimes uncomfortable steps are necessary but they have to be done and will bring change for the better.

2019 Rewind: Pretty Pink

Pretty Pink

How was 2019 for you?
Pretty Pink: It was really a wonderful year with awesome gigs and unforgettable experiences. I’ve continued to develop my sound, been in the studio and on the road at a lot to play in nice clubs and festivals and have taken my label Wanderlust further forward. But above all, I am happy that more and more people around the globe are listening to my radio show Deep Woods and also to scale the show from radio to a live club concept.

Highlights?
That’s always hard to answer. My release “Deepest Beat” on Found Frequencies or my Fairytale EP on Wanderlust Music are some of the highlights besides many fantastic moments behind the decks.

Lowlights?
Having not enough time to realize all ideas at once – so 2020 next try!

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I don’t believe in a New Year’s resolutions, just in the fact in which people’s company you start your new year!

2019 Rewind: NØLAH

nolah machinery cercle - du gard

How was 2019 for you?
NØLAH: Full of emotions! I’ve had the pleasure to play in clubs and festivals that I never imagined (Brunch-In the City, DGTL, Aquasella, Chocolate Festival Lausanne, Kitty Su Mumbai, Ostrov Kiev, etc.). I’ve met amazing people, and I enjoyed so much sharing my music.

Highlights?
I am very happy with this year’s releases. I’m very grateful for all the gigs and tours I’ve done and also to be awarded for the best Spanish-American live artist in the Vicious Music Awards (VMA).

Lowlights?
They are not always good things, I have had a difficult time at work (I have another job as a music teacher) that has led me to make a decision for next year, to dedicate myself 100 percent to my music.

Song of the year?
It’s complicated. There are many songs that I loved this year, but I chose it because it is very different from the others:

RDNK – 2

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
It has been an intense year, but the most important thing of this year is the decision I have made to bet on music and focus on producing and live set.

2019 Rewind: Christopher Kah

Christopher Kah

How was 2019 for you?
Christopher Kah: 2019 was an intense year of music creation with many projects/concepts, like for instance the Exist Series [released at the] end of year.

I strongly felt the need to share my tracks right away. It’s cool to send the tracks to big labels, but somehow this year I felt exhausted with the whole process and the amount of time it takes from the moment the track is created to a release date … I needed more freedom, more spontaneity.

Let’s not forget why we create music … it is for ourselves in the first place, and the natural motion for the sound is to go out there, to people’s ears and body, kind of right away! That’s the main reason why I decided to create Exist Series; my different compositions released from 13 December on.

I was also very happy to release my first house EP on the English label Food Music, and of course, a techno EP on GEM Records. I also enjoyed feeding my Youtube channel with my concept RE: SOURCE, which consists of creating a track with the least possible machines!

Highlights?
The highlight for me is finally at this end of year. I am currently working on an unedited live performance! It’s a combination of everything I’ve done until today; a totally dance floor concept, powerful sounds, with just a couple of machines … I’ve always wanted to do a full live performance with a minimum equipment. I had a concept in my mind, but so far I hadn’t found the right instruments. Now I have what I need …. more information very soon!

Lowlights?
Forgot about these already.

Song of the year?
Rather than a song, can I tell you about the machine of the year? It’s the brand-new Roland MC-707. I found how to condense a real live [set], with spontaneity and unrestraint creativity. Now I can feel free a live focus on the sounds and inspiration of the very moment, without my eyes fixed on a computer.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Live !
