Prolific Tokyo-based progressive-house titan Shingo Nakamura has recorded for top labels including Silk Music, Anjunadeep and Otographic Music during his storied career.
This month, the beloved DJ/producer gave the world “Glow,” a deeply emotive and sonically soothing single issued on Monstercat Silk, a newly launched label formed after Monstercat acquired Silk Music. “Glow” offers clues about what can be expected from the maestro on his full-length album due in June.
We checked in with Shingo to find out which five tracks are currently rocking his world. Spoiler alert — one of the cuts he selected isn’t for the dance floor!
1. A.M.R – Beginnings (Silk Music)
A.M.R. is an artist known for his acoustic and melodic songs, but I’m also a fan of these groovy tracks he makes.
2. Yusuke Teranishi & inxisiv – Departure (Synth Collective)
There are many artists who make melodic progressive-house with plucked chords but Yusuke Teranishi is one of my recent favorites.
3. Frost – Overtones (PROFF Remix) (Anjunadeep)
Anjunadeep is a label I’ve been admiring since 2005 when it started. Among their recent releases, I went crazy over this amazing bass-heavy remix by PROFF.
4. Matt Fax – Lyra (Colorize)
Matt Fax is one of the leading artists of Colorize, releasing deep progressive-house. He recently released a three-song EP, and my favorite is the deep and atmospheric track, “Lyra.”
5. Teen Daze – Glacial Lake (Flora)
I make mostly club music, but I also like to listen to beatless, ambient music. This recent release by Teen Daze has a cinematic sound and gentle piano that is calming and soothing.
