A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Hyperdub boss Steve Goodman (a.k.a. Kode9) to help London-based artist Merrisa Cooly G Campbell. According to Goodman a fire on December 31, 2018 at Shurgard store on Purley way in Croydon destroyed all of her possessions.
Cooly, a mother of two young children who was between houses at the time and was about to move into a new place, had placed all her things in storage in the building that was burned down.
Adding insult to injury is that her family was in the middle of moving to a new home after their previous residence was lost due to a flood.
In the fire she lost, everything she owned and worked hard to buy including her 2 children’s clothes and collection of exclusive sneakers, studio equipment, her vinyl collection, her books, her children’s toys and games, personal possessions that held sentimental value, TVs, iPads, a video camera, 2 hard drives, 2 bedroom home contents and garden contents furniture – pretty much everything she owned. They are currently living out of a small bag of clothes.
Donations to help Cooly and her family can be made here.
