Tributes are pouring in for London DJ Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson who passed away today after a seven-year battle with cancer. Anderson’s death was announced on his Facebook page and on social media by fellow Mi-Soul DJ Gordon Mac.
Anderson established himself on the late ’70s/early ’80s London scene as a tastemaker/party rocker who played everything from soul and R&B to house. His resume dates back to the earliest days of Kiss-FM, helming a mix show when it was a pirate radio station.
“Myself and Mi-Soul are very sad to announce that our friend and colleague Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson has passed away,” wrote Mac. “Following a long and very distinguished career, Paul was with Mi-Soul from Day One and not only contributed to our output with his brilliant Saturday night mix but he was also a superstar at all our live events. At this time, there are no further details regarding Paul’s death, but we would ask all Mi-Soul listeners to respect the privacy of Paul’s family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Paul’s nearest and dearest. He will be sorely missed by the entire Mi-Soul family and by all that had the privilege to see him live. R.I.P. Trouble.”
In September, a GoFundMe campaign was launched by friends of Anderson’s to help the DJ cover mounting medical bills. At the time he was in declining health and was unable to play gigs, although he vowed to try to keep his regular Saturday show on Mi-Soul Radio going.
Anderson posted what might be his final mix show on November 24.
