What an amazing year it’s been so far for techno troubadour Chris Liebing. In April, the CLR honcho signed to Mute Records, and released his dark techno track “Novembergrey” co-produced by Ralf Hildenbeutel.
In between decimating clubs and festivals worldwide this summer, Liebing released Burn Slow in September, his first studio album in over a decade. On the album he explores sounds beyond his chosen genre of techno and is joined by kindred musical spirits including Gary Numan, Cold Cave, Polly Scattergood and Miles Cooper Seaton. Burn Slow is quite a musical statement, if you ask us.
Ahead of gigs at XS in Las Vegas on October 5 and set at Connect in Düsseldorf on October 13, we connected with the globetrotting Teutonic legend and asked him to share his five favorite tracks of the moment.
1. SRVD – Elevate
A new Rekids Release. Radio Slave is once more on fire. He is one of the best producers out there for many, many years. This one has an epic house music feel to it, with the typical Radio Slave-ish groove and sound design. Let’s get high together.
2. Robert Hood – Low Life
Robert Hood is also on fire. Not sure exactly how he does it to come up with amazing hits after hits … this one needs to be played out in full to deliver the whole beauty on the dance floor. Without Robert, the techno scene would not be the same. If I am stuck in a set, I just play something from him and I am back on track.
3. Patrice Bäumel – The Hatchet
Patrice’s productions are so unique and deep, sometimes (mostly) very dance floor functional too. Like this one, it take you on a ride. I just love these 16th rhythms.
4. Remake – Blade Runner (Maceo Plex Remix)
This one is just epic. Maceo at his best, so intense and emotional. Love it. Goosebumps every time.
5. Daniel Blumberg – Minus
Something not for the dance Floor, but for your mind. Love the whole album by Daniel Blumberg and this one is real dark, moody and beautiful.
