Brazil’s dance music community is in mourning following the tragic death of DJ Kaleb Freitas (real name: Kalleby Frietas de Rosa), who was killed this weekend when a stage collapsed during the Atmosphere Festival in Esteio, Brazil. According to reports, strong winds were responsible for the sound and light system falling onto the stage.
Freitas, 30, suffered head trauma. He died of his injuries after being rushed to the hospital. Three others in attendance were also hurt in the incident.
Organizers of the 5,000-person event posted a heartfelt message on Facebook: “We always cherish the safety of our public, following all the processes, reports and authorizations requested by the local authorities. We are devastated. We lost a friend, an artist. Our priority is to assist the wounded and their families.”
Officials said the event had all of the required permits and blamed bad weather as the cause of the accident.
