It’s been said that everyone is now a DJ. So maybe that’s why everyone on the street or subway is wearing DJ headphones. From our point of view it seems that Beats By Dre headphones are ubiquitous, though when we gave them a test drive we weren’t exactly impressed by the product.
To counter BBD’s dominance in the headphone marketplace, Pioneer DJ will begin selling its new HDJ-X DJ headphone series in October, consisting of three models:
- The new flagship HDJ-X10 (MSRP €339 or roughly $US402) headphones are designed for pro DJs to use at clubs and festivals. Their HD1 drivers produce high-resolution sound ranging from 5 Hz to 40 kHz and their ear pads and headband are protected from sweat and dirt by water repellent nano coating.
- The HDJ-X7 headphones use previous flagship model the HDJ-2000MK2 (MSRP €199 or roughly US$236) as a blueprint and are equipped with newly developed drivers. The most economical model is the HDJ-X5 (MSRP €99 or roughly US$117), which inherit high-quality audio design from the model above, giving you clean monitoring even at high volumes.
The company says their HDJ-X DJs ‘phones have cleared the US Military Standard MIL-STD-810G Shock test, though they offer no specific durability guarantee.
