Not only do we enjoy Jeff Derringer’s techno productions on Electric Deluxe, Soma and Perc Trax, but we really like his musings on Twitter. However, this morning the Chicago DJ/producer/Smartbar resident’s feed revealed the sobering news that he is taking a hiatus to deal a relapse of cancer, a tumor on the base of his tongue as well as some lymph nodes on his neck which need to be removed with a complex surgery.
“There’s no easy way to say this — I am dealing with a recurrence of cancer,” Derringer wrote. “Obviously this situation is now going to require my full attention. As far as performances go, I will be taking an indefinite hiatus that I hope will last no longer than 4-6 months. I have some production projects in the pipeline, including something very exciting related to Oktave, that I play to continue while I deal with my medical situation.”
He closed by stating that he would keep fans and friends posted on his situation.
“I’ve beaten this dreadful disease once before and I fully intend on doing so again,” he wrote. “I would ask for your positive thoughts and energy while I deal with this setback.”
We wish Jeff a speedy recovery and look forward to his prompt return to the DJ booth.
