Currently riding high on the success of their 2016 debut album, Discipline, French electronic outfit Club Cheval are kicking off a short and sweet US DJ tour tonight at Q Nightclub in Seattle. From there, the quartet — Sam Tiba, Myd, Canbaster, and Panteros666 — play Schimanski in Brooklyn on February 16 and Sound-Bar in Chicago on February 17. We caught up with the guys before they went through customs and asked them to share five tracks currently rocking their world.
Gigi Masin – “Clouds”
Canblaster: Eternal shout-out to Gigi Masin and his ambient track “Clouds” sampled this year by Post Malone, and earlier by a major Japanese beatmaker Sam and I share love for Nujabes. These chords are doing weird things to my brain. I’ve used other tracks from this guy in some of my X-Mas mixes, so I’m happy to see him get the recognition he deserves lately. I actually just exported some DJ versions of his tunes, so expect to hear some of them if you come to see us live at Brooklyn Schimanski.
Beesmunt Soundsystem – “How I Wish”
Canblaster: When we play back to back like on this tour, each one of us has their area of expertise. In my case I really like finding piano-house belters for our sets. Everybody loves a good piano! This one is my most recent favorite. I love the juxtaposition of that deep Berlin techno sound design on the drums that’s trending in Europe right now, with the piano coming out of nowhere, flipping the vibe.
Yosi Horikawa – “Wandering”
Sam Tiba: A track from 2013 that sounds like a 2017 track. Drum science at its best, by one of the most talented Japanese producers in my opinion.
Dinamarca – “Holy”
Panteros: Heard on one of the best EP coming out of Staycore from Sweden, this track sends people somewhere else. I have no idea where and this is why I like this track so much.
Polo & Pan feat. Jacques – “Jacquadi”
Myd: Great track with cool rhythm tricks, but most important I’m a huge fan of the video. A love story between the toad and the bird, it’s my life summed up in a video. Shout out to our friend Jacques who will come for the first time to the US soon.
