Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann have spent the last quarter-century making our world safe for ambient innovations. And now their latest sonic journey is upon us, Moonbuilding 2703 AD. As the album title implies, The Orb have delivered a reliably interstellar-sounding electronic excursion. As Paterson says, “it’s a solid piece of music that mutates into an eight legged lunar Land Rover and takes off into a cosmic horizon of a million sounds, patterns and textures. It spins the listener on his/her head, rewiring their brains to maximum capacity, then brings them home, sweet home.”
Kompakt won’t be officially releasing the album until next week, but if the above description isn’t enough to keep you satisfied until then, fear not. You can stream the entirety of Moonbuilding in all its cosmic glory right here.
Take this opportunity to start getting accustomed to The Orb’s latest leap, because they’ll be bringing their stargazing sound to stages all over North America in September (see below). And if you’re curious about how Paterson and Fehlmann concocted all this cosmic music, you’ll even a short making-of-the-album video below that lets you in for a little look behind the curtain at The Orb’s inner sanctum.
