Ladytron founder Daniel Hunt has unveiled an interesting new side project called Tamoios featuring Brazilian singer Luisa Maita and artist Fernando Rischbieter. The project arrives after Hunt moved to São Paulo, Brazil, in early 2013. Prior to moving to the city he had been a regular visitor, often DJing at various underground parties such as Voodoohop. His musical exploits led to meeting Rischbieter and Maita culminating in the creation of Tamoios.
Tamoios’ debut single “Alto lá” features samba influenced percussion, lush electronic instrumentation and Maita’s gorgeous vocals. The song will be accompanied by a music video filmed at Oscar Niemeyer’s Memorial da América Latina in São Paulo. A full-length album is due in August and will feature former Nine Inch Nails touring member Alessandro Cortini and percussionist Brazilian musician Guillerme Kastrup.
Hunt produced Ladytron band mate Helen Marnie’s debut solo album, Crystal World, in 2013. Hunt is said to be working on Ladytron’s sixth album after the release of 2011’s Gravity the Seducer.
